Gosforth Valley Medical Practice - Delivering excellent quality care to you
|
|
Introduction: Gosforth Valley Medical Centre is a small, friendly and innovative two partner training Practice situated on the edge of the Derbyshire Peak District and lies between Sheffield and Chesterfield. In January 2005 we moved to our purpose built Medical Centre in Dronfield Woodhouse near the local shopping precinct and very close to excellent schools. The Centre is readily accessible and on a number of local bus routes. There are ample parking facilities, with additional parking available at the shopping precinct. The building has been designed to accommodate the physically disabled and wheelchair users. There is a lift to upper floors with 2 EVAC chairs for use in emergencies. Within the complex there is a Pharmacy and an Optician, both offering ground floor facilities. Social demographics: Dronfield is a small town that grew significantly in the early 1970’s, since then there has been minimal ‘in-fill’ development only. It serves as a commuter town for Sheffield and Chesterfield and also for Leeds and Nottingham, with a good mainline train service. Dronfield has lowish unemployment and little representation from the ethnic minorities, the majority of our patients are well educated and in white-collar employment. There are no special areas of social or health need within the population therefore we aim to provide comprehensive services to the whole of our population, with well established Chronic Disease Management services shared by all members of our Primary Health Care Team (PHCT). We have a small number of housebound patients and these are monitored by the District Nurse and Health Visitor, involving the GP as required. List size: The practice serves a population of ~4050. Our patients are predominantly British, middle class and are quite evenly spread across all age groups. The premises: The Practice occupies the ground, first & second floors of the Gosforth Valley Medical Centre. The ground floor contains a spacious reception, waiting area and patient toilets (including one disabled toilet). Leading from these are five consulting rooms, a combined Minor Ops & phlebotomy room, clean and dirty utility rooms and a shared equipment room. There is also a lift for convenience and disabled patients. The first floor contains and six consulting rooms. The Community Staff office and treatment room, used by district nursing staff, health visitor and midwife, are also found on the first floor, as is a counselling room. Also on the first floor is a communications room & staff cloakroom with shower and toilets. On the second floor (administration) there is a multipurpose meeting room which is used for staff education, business meetings and occasionally patient groups e.g. ‘Stop Smoking Group’ and ‘Cardiac Club’. Facilities also include a well equipped kitchen/restroom and a receptionist’s office, practice manager’s office, a designated study/library and a HV office. Staff toilets (including a disabled toilet) can also be found on this floor. We are a Training Practice and usually have GP Registrars/F2 Doctors in surgery concurrently. Our Practice is a happy and stimulating place to work and an ideal place to see all the best that General Practice has to offer. Special features of the practice include:-
